2025 OPEN CALL for Artist Residencies on Governors Island
Applications due: March 9, 2025
Residency dates: Season 1: May 1- Jul 31, 2025 Season 2: August 1- October 31, 2025
We invite Bronx-based artists to apply for our Artist Residency program. The program responds to a crucial need for studio space and professional development opportunities for emerging Bronx artists. The chosen artists will be expected to open their studios to the public on one of the last two weekends of their Season or will be required to put up an exhibition on the ground floor. We will give stipends of $400 to each artist and offer to collect the artist’s materials at BronxArtSpace and transport them from there to the island at the start of the residency and back to BronxArtSpace at the end of the residency.
Before you apply please make yourself familiar with the restrictions and requirements of the island: www.govisland.com
Things to consider when applying for a residency: The houses do not have water or working plumbing. Small quantities of dirty water can be carefully poured down a nearby public restroom sink, all oil paint residue must be removed from the island in a container. Free public WiFi is available.
This year our Residents can be found in House 410A on Colonels Row.
